Insurance Marketing Idea: Conquer the Google Realm, Part 2

25 April, 2013

Making a company’s presence known on Google can mean a higher rank on search engine results, an increase in potential customers finding your website and consequently, more business. Yesterday, we described how to build the foundation of a Google account and Google+ company page. Now we’ll take a look at how to claim your Google+ Local page and connect authorship to your company – two beneficial strategies in gaining exposure.

1.  Claim your Google+ Local Page

Formerly known as Google Places, the local business pages have been converted to Google+ Local pages. If you search your company’s name in Google, is it pinpointed by a red pin on the map? If yes, click the pin and click “More Info” next to your business’s name. It will take you to your Google+ Local page. Elements of your company’s information may already be present but by claiming the page, you can customize and add credibility value. Scroll downward and look for a “Manage This Page” link to attach the page to your account.

If no, set up a Google+ Local page by following the directions here.

2.  Optimize your Google+ Local Page

A Google+ Local page includes the basics of your company.

  • Add the location, keeping the address consistent across internet platforms. For example, if your business is located in a suite, remember to include the number every time you enter the company address to be shown online.
  • Insert the phone number and website.
  • Customize the profile with a logo and photos.

A major differentiating aspect of a Google+ Local page (rather than a Google Business page) is the ability to write reviews. Encourage satisfied clients to write their positive experiences with the company by sending them a thank you email and including the link directly to the Google+ Local page.

3.  Connect Authorship

One of the most significant tactics to give your website credibility is to keep posting fresh, new content regularly in the form of a blog. It demonstrates a company’s expertise as well as a website’s validity. Be at the forefront of the industry and start an exclusive insurance blog today! (Need blog writing help? We can assist. Once a blog is established, Google offers the opportunity to link your blog on the website to your Google+ profile, increasing SEO even more. Go to plus.google.com/authorship for the details. Here are a couple of quick tips:

  • Make sure the Google+ profile name (what we set up in Google, Part 1) is the same name used for the byline.
  • Use a professional photo. Please no vacation or blurry pictures!
